Why Are Some of Harley Quinn’s Tattoos Missing in ‘The Suicide Squad’?

The wait is finally over! James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is ushering in new era of our favorite supervillains-tuned-sort-of-superheroes in a brand new DC film. As the characters band together, lots of things are different this time around. But even with a new director at the helm, we still get to see Margot Robbie’s iconic Harley Quinn back on our screens. As more fans tune in to watch the new DC Universe film, some eagle-eyed spectators have noticed a major change to Harley.

If you noticed Harley’s “rotten” tattoo was missing in The Suicide Squad, you are not the only one! But there’s actually a good reason why it’s officially gone this time around.

Wait, are you sure one of Harley’s tattoos is missing?

Yep! Harley’s “rotten” tattoo that she sported on her face is now mysteriously missing in The Suicide Squad and no, it has nothing to do with new foundation. In fact, it’s not even the only tattoo change. Harley’s previous back tattoo “Property of the Joker” is now “Property of No One” in this version, showing her recent growth as seen in Birds of Prey.

So why did her tattoos change in The Suicide Squad?

Other than showing that Harley is doing just fine by herself (no thanks to Mr. J), film director James Gunn revealed on an Instagram Live that it was actually Margot Robbie’s idea to get rid of Harley’s face tattoo.

“Margot didn’t like it and found out I also didn’t like [it], so we decided just to remove it,” he said according to Looper. Sometimes, things in Hollywood really are that simple!

Will it come back?

Honestly, with so many people involved in the DC Universe, it’s a little hard to tell if this will be a permanent change. But since it was Margot’s idea in the first place and she is Harley Quinn, we doubt it will. She’s all the better for it!
