Barbie Ferreira Responds to Theories About Her Character Kat’s Reduced Screen Time in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2

Barbie Ferreira made it clear that she and her character are here to stay. On Wednesday, the Euphoria actress spoke about why her character, Kat Hernandez, wasn’t featured as much in the show’s second season compared to its first. TL;DR: It’s nothing to read into other than the show’s ~natural storyline~.

At a FYC event for the Emmy-winning show at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Barbie opened up to Entertainment Tonight’s Denny Directo about the theories that her screen time was intentionally reduced.

“There’s a huge cast,” she started, underscoring that 10 cast members alone were at the panel whereas season 2 only had eight episodes. “So, we’ll see everyone. Everyone gets their time.”

ICYMI, when the show’s second season aired, rumors began to swirl about there being alleged tension between Barbie and Euphoria director Sam Levinson because Kat was not as prominent as she had been during the first season. (The Daily Beast even reported that the two had a “falling out” on set.)

However, Barbie was quick to debunk the rumors and more recently told Insider, “What’s interesting about this season is there are so many more eyes on it that even the news cycle has been so interesting to see…I’ve seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue and some of it’s kind of like mundane little things.”

Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they’re not rooted in the truth, but it’s OK because I know it’s just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff,” she continued. And I signed up for it. So, I’ll take it. I’ll take the good and the bad.” Okay, fair!

As for what Euphoria season 3 may hold for the actor’s character? Barbie mused to ET, “I don’t think anyone’s ready for a relationship in Euphoria. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be one.” That said, she did mentioned out of everyone in the cast, she’d most want to share a scene with Maude Apatow (who plays Lexi) because they would be a cool little duo.” @Maude if you’re reading this, we’d also like to audition for your bestie role, TYVM!
